In a meeting filled with emotion, Liverpool paid a heartfelt tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva, in the first competitive match at Anfield since their tragic loss last month.
Prior to the start of the Premier League match against Bournemouth, fans displayed banners forming “DJ20” and “AS30” in the stands, during a minute of silence in honor of the Portuguese players, who died in a car accident in Spain. Liverpool players joined in the center circle, arm in arm.
Both the players from both teams and Liverpool’s coach, Arne Slot, and his coaching staff, wore black armbands as a sign of mourning.
Preceding the match, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” was sung, while banners, flags, and scarves were displayed in memory of Jota.
