Laporta Highlights the Differences Between Barcelona and Real Madrid

The president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, has highlighted the different management philosophies between the Catalan club and its eternal rival, Real Madrid. According to Laporta, Real Madrid’s model is based on “power” and the hiring of players, while Barcelona focuses on the development of its own talent.

We are different clubs. Madrid has a feeling of power, while we have a feeling of freedom.

Laporta, in statements to the club’s internal podcast, highlighted that Barcelona, “is more than a club” due to its focus on the youth academy and player development. “Our model is based on developing young people through La Masia and creating talent; Madrid is more inclined to sign players. They don’t have many players in their squad who have come from the youth academy,” he added.

The Barcelona leader also addressed the possible arrival of Nico Williams, dismissing any conflict with Athletic Club. Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, confirmed Williams’ “desire” to join the club this summer. Laporta stated that the club has “taken all the necessary measures to be able to sign normally. We will be able to sign and register the two players we want to sign.” The first player Laporta was referring to is goalkeeper Joan García, signed from Espanyol for 25 million euros last week, while the second target is Spanish winger Williams.
