Chelsea coach Sonia Bompastor has confirmed that Sam Kerr is ready to rejoin the team for the first time in almost two years. Her return will be in the WSL opening match against Manchester City on Friday. The Australian international has been out of the courts due to a knee injury suffered in January 2024, followed by an extensive rehabilitation period.

“Yes, Sam Kerr is in the team, so she will participate in the match [against Manchester City]”, Bompastor told reporters on Thursday.

Bompastor added that it has not yet been decided whether Kerr will start the match, but confirmed her inclusion in the squad. The coach highlighted Kerr’s good condition, both physically and mentally, emphasizing that his return is expected by everyone.
