Alexander Isak Recovers in Spain Amidst Growing Rumors About His Future

Swedish striker Alexander Isak is in the process of recovering from an injury at Real Sociedad’s training facilities, as confirmed by the LaLiga club to Alofoke Deportes. This situation arises amid speculation about a possible transfer to Liverpool. Isak, who was unable to participate in Newcastle’s pre-season tour due to a thigh injury, missed the match against Arsenal in Singapore, as well as the matches against a K-League combined team and Tottenham in South Korea. The Swedish international would be open to leaving Newcastle this summer, with Liverpool leading the race to sign him if the possibility materializes. However, Newcastle insists that they are not open to negotiating his transfer. A Real Sociedad spokesperson confirmed that Isak has been working on his recovery in Zubieta, near San Sebastián, during this week. Isak played for Real Sociedad for three years, becoming one of the most sought-after young forwards in Europe, before joining Newcastle in 2022.

Newcastle is reluctant to let Isak go, who has scored 44 goals in the Premier League in three seasons with the team and has three years remaining on his contract. Coach Eddie Howe has stated that the player is “happy” at the club, although he acknowledged that “you never know what might happen”. Liverpool has already beaten Newcastle to the signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer, in an initial deal worth £69 million ($91 million). The Premier League champion has already added Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez to their squad, but allowed another forward, Luis Díaz, to join Bayern Munich this week.

“[Isak] is still our player. He has a contract with us,” Howe said this week. “To some extent, we control what comes for him. I would love to believe that all possibilities are still available to us. My wish is that he stays, but that is not under my total control.

“We have not received a formal offer for Alex from any club.”
