Haaland Postpones His Date with 100 Goals in the Premier League

Erling Haaland will have to wait a few more days to join the exclusive club of players with 100 goals in the Premier League. The Norwegian striker failed to score in Manchester City’s 3-2 victory over Leeds United on Saturday.

Haaland is in a race against time to break Alan Shearer’s record as the fastest player to reach 100 goals. The Norwegian striker is only one goal away from the centenary mark after 110 games. Shearer set the record in 1995, achieving it in his 124th match.

It would have been a special moment if Haaland had scored his 100th goal against Leeds, the city where he was born, coinciding with his father, Alfie Inge Haaland’s, time at the Yorkshire club.
The next match to break the record could be against Fulham on Tuesday. Although he still has room to surpass Shearer’s record, Haaland has a long way to go to reach the title of historical top scorer in the league: Shearer is the all-time top scorer in the Premier League with 260 goals. Phil Foden scored the winning goal in added time to secure City’s 3-2 victory over Leeds. Leeds, who were struggling, managed to come back from a 2-0 deficit at halftime to tie the match and dream of an improbable and necessary victory in the Premier League.
