The Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola, has left open the possibility of Jack Grealish’s return to the team, although he suggested that the ideal scenario would be for the English midfielder to find a new club and regain his excitement for football after two years. Grealish was not included in City’s squad for the FIFA Club World Cup and was given permission to negotiate with other clubs about a possible departure from the Etihad Stadium this summer. Guardiola explained that the decision was made after “sincere” conversations between Grealish and the club. Although he did not state that Grealish’s time at City is over, the coach hinted that the player needs to find a new club and rediscover his love for football.
The coach highlighted Grealish’s quality, but pointed out that in the last two seasons he hasn’t had many minutes of play and needs to play regularly again to prove his worth. Guardiola also commented on the possibility of Grealish leaving this summer, and responded: “I don’t know. Now we decided that he doesn’t come here and what happens, I don’t know in the end. If we don’t find, he is a Man City player and he will return”.He had a conversation with the club and they decided it was best to [stay behind].

Guardiola added that he hopes to take advantage of Lijnders’ knowledge and that he has been a source of inspiration for him.I asked Jurgen, of course, because I didn’t want to interfere too much. I told him it would be a problem, you know, talking to him, and he told me no, not at all.
