The Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, has expressed his admiration for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s “incredible” crossing ability, describing his new teammate as a “nightmare” for goalkeepers. The English defender provided his first assist for Madrid, with a precise cross that Gonzalo García converted into a goal in the 1-0 victory against Juventus in the Club World Cup.

He could have already provided several assists in the tournament. In training, his striking is incredible, his free kicks and corners are at another level. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone with his quality in striking and crosses.

Alexander-Arnold joined Madrid from Liverpool before the tournament in the United States. He has started in all of Madrid’s Club World Cup matches so far, playing as a right-back and in midfield. Courtois admits that he is trying to get used to Alexander-Arnold’s style of play, who tends to move to more advanced positions.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has made a promising start to his Real Madrid career
Alexander-Arnold has had a promising start to his career at Real Madrid.

As a goalkeeper, it’s sometimes a nightmare. It keeps you alert and forces you to work hard to make saves. It makes us improve.

Thibaut CourtoisMadrid will face Borussia Dortmund in the Club World Cup quarter-finals on Sunday in New Jersey. So far, they have avoided facing Brazilian teams in the competition, with Palmeiras and Fluminense still in the tournament. Asked about the level of the South American teams, Courtois commented: Those of us who know about football never doubted his level. If you believe four Twitter users who think the level is crap, you are mistaken. Madrid has counted on García’s goals in the United States. The 21-year-old player has replaced Kylian Mbappé while the French striker was recovering from gastroenteritis.

I didn’t expect him to score three goals in four games, but I knew he would do well. I trust him and he is earning that trust.

Xabi Alonso, Real Madrid coach
García is determined to make the most of his time leading Madrid’s attack. The tournament is the opportunity of a lifetime and plans to give 200% to make the most of it.
