The PSG vs. Marseille Classic Postponed: Clash with the Ballon d’Or Ceremony?
The anticipated clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille, known as “Le Classique”, has been rescheduled for Monday night. The decision was made due to the strong storms forecast in the region.
This date change directly coincides with the Ballon d’Or ceremony, which will be held at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Several PSG stars, nominated for important awards, are expected to attend the event.
Ousmane Dembélé, one of the main contenders for the men’s Ballon d’Or, and nine other PSG players are nominated. Now, with the match against Marseille scheduled for the same time, Dembélé will face the difficult decision of choosing between the sporting event and the awards gala.
- The PSG boss criticizes the “incompetence” of the voters if Dembélé doesn’t win the Ballon d’Or.
- Full list of nominees for the Men’s Ballon d’Or: Yamal, Dembélé head the list.
- Full list of Ballon d’Or winners: Rodri, Messi, Ronaldo and more.
Dembélé, along with his teammate Désiré Doué, were not included in coach Luis Enrique’s squad for the match against Marseille due to injuries.
The Bouches-du-Rhône region, where Marseille is located, is on orange alert for rain, floods, and thunderstorms, which led to the postponement of the match.
Last year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony was affected by the absence of Real Madrid, European champions at the time, due to the non-inclusion of Vinícius Júnior among the winners. This year, the situation is different, but PSG, who won the Champions League in May and the European Super Cup in August, could also be affected by the match’s coincidence.
