Jarrod Bowen, West Ham captain, stars in tense moment after the defeat

West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen needed to be restrained by his teammates after trying to approach the fans following the 3-2 defeat to Wolves in the Carabao Cup. This result worsens the team’s start to the season. Bowen took to Instagram to apologize to the West Ham fans who traveled to Molineux, after he and his teammates approached to applaud them. At one point, he appeared to point at a fan and make a comment, before attempting to jump the advertising hoarding, being stopped by his teammates. The English player took off the captain’s armband and left the field with his head bowed.

I am a passionate person and I will fight every time I step on the field. But I need to set a better example and you, the fans, know how much I love you and how much I love this club.

Jarrod Bowen
The Hammers came into the match after losing to Sunderland and Chelsea in the Premier League, conceding eight goals in the process, putting manager Graham Potter under pressure at the start of the season.

Potter said he was unaware of the details of the incident, but described Bowen as a “fantastic captain, servant, player and person for the club” and called for unity.

Our fans have been fantastic. They are suffering because of the results we’ve had and Jarrod, obviously, cares about the club and the team. He gave it his all again and it was just an exchange of views from people who care.

The coach added: “The most important relationship in a club is the one that exists between the fans and the team. We need our fans and everyone to stay united. The team is suffering at the moment. We are all hurting, I assure you that no one is celebrating or happy with what we are doing. We are all suffering.” Jørgen Strand Larsen scored in the 82nd and 84th minutes, shortly after coming on as a substitute, to turn the match around for Wolves, who also lost their first two league games. Rodrigo Gomes put Wolves ahead, before goals from Tomás Soucek and Lucas Paquetá gave West Ham the lead in the 63rd minute. Wolves manager Vitor Pereira praised Strand Larsen’s character and commitment amid speculation linking him with Newcastle.

Jorgen is our player and very important to us. We’ll see what happens. I understand football, every player has a price, even Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, but for me, he is very, very important.
