Denis Bouanga Secures His Future with LAFC
The star forward Denis Bouanga has reached an agreement to extend his contract for several years with LAFC, as announced by the club this Wednesday. The agreement ensures Bouanga’s permanence as a designated player until 2028, with the option to extend it until the 2029-30 MLS season. Since his arrival in August 2022 from Ligue 1, Bouanga has established himself as one of the most outstanding footballers in MLS. Last season, he became LAFC’s all-time top scorer, accumulating 101 goals and 42 assists in 152 matches with the team. The 31-year-old player, whose previous contract ended in 2027, had aroused great interest in the transfer market, especially from Fluminense of Brazil. However, LAFC has managed to retain its key player, ensuring the continuity of its offensive duo. John Thorrington, LAFC’s general manager, expressed his satisfaction with the renewal:I am grateful to LAFC for the trust they have placed in me. From the beginning, my family and I have felt at home in Los Angeles. It is an honor to represent this club and our fans every time I put on the jersey. I believe in what we are building here and I am motivated to keep improving, winning more trophies and helping this club reach even greater heights.

Bouanga had an immediate impact on LAFC, being key in obtaining the Supporters’ Shield and the MLS Cup. In 2023, he equaled the club record with 38 goals in all competitions and was selected for the first time for the MLS Best XI. In 2024, he finished as runner-up for the Golden Boot with 20 goals and obtained his second consecutive selection for the MLS All-Star. Last season, Bouanga scored 24 goals in the regular season, finishing second again in the Golden Boot race and becoming the first MLS player to score 20 goals in three consecutive seasons. The arrival of Son Heung-Min mid-season boosted LAFC’s attack, with Bouanga and Son combining for 25 goals and eight assists in their brief partnership, including 18 consecutive goals from the duo for LAFC over nearly two months of matches. Bouanga has started the current season on a good foot, scoring a hat-trick in the Concacaf Champions Cup and a goal and an assist in LAFC’s 3-0 victory over the MLS Cup defending champion, Inter Miami CF, in the start of the regular season.Denis has performed at an elite level with historical consistency since the day he arrived and has helped us win multiple trophies. This new contract reflects that. We are proud of what he has achieved here and are motivated to continue building on that success together.
