Bayern Munich is holding “intensive” talks with Harry Kane about his future, although specific negotiations for a new contract have not begun, according to the club’s sporting director, Max Eberl. Kane, captain of the England national team, has scored 24 goals in the Bundesliga this season, becoming the league’s top scorer in Europe. The striker arrived at Bayern from Tottenham in the summer of 2023 for around 100 million pounds (137 million dollars) and has a contract until the summer of 2027. Despite this, the 32-year-old player has been linked with a lucrative transfer to Saudi Arabia should he decide not to extend his stay with the Bundesliga champions.

We are talking, that doesn’t mean negotiations have begun. We are in intensive conversations with Harry, then the next steps will follow.

Max Eberl
Eberl emphasized that nothing has been agreed upon yet, but Bayern continues regular dialogue with Kane, who has scored 123 goals in 129 appearances. Kane scored two penalties in the 5-1 victory over Hoffenheim on Sunday, which left Bayern six points ahead of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany expects to utilize his squad for Wednesday night’s cup match, but will not underestimate the challenge of Leipzig.

They have the wingers and the three forwards who score a lot of goals and have a lot of creativity, so they are a strong team in attack.

Bayern thrashed Leipzig 6-0 in their first Bundesliga match of the season and last month achieved a 5-1 away victory. Leipzig coach Ole Werner insists his team “has nothing to lose” in the cup match.

We need to take advantage of the spaces that open up for us, with courage and confidence. We have the players on the field who can hurt Bayern.

Ole Werner
Werner added that the match will come down to defending well and aggressively. We need to act as a unit, keep our distances and work together against the ball. At the same time, we want to play football ourselves and be dangerous.
