Barcelona Secures Joan García After Paying Release Clause

Barcelona is ready to sign Joan García, after executing the 25 million euro release clause of the Espanyol goalkeeper. The transfer is expected to be finalized in the coming days. The club ordered the payment of the clause on Friday. The League still needs to validate the operation before the agreement is completed. García, 24 years old, has agreed to a six-year contract with Barcelona, which will extend until 2031. He will reinforce a position that currently includes Marc-André ter Stegen, Wojciech Szczęsny, and Iñaki Peña. Espanyol would have preferred not to lose him to their city rival, but could not avoid the transfer given that the 25 million euro fee represents the release clause in his contract.
García, born in Catalonia, joined Espanyol in 2016 and progressed through the club’s youth system, debuting in the first team in 2021. He helped Espanyol get promoted to LaLiga in 2024 and participated in all 38 league matches this season, securing their place in the league on the final matchday. He received praise for some of his performances.
