Anthony Hudson, former USMNT coach, takes over as the new Thailand national team manager

Thailand has officially hired Anthony Hudson as the new head coach of its men’s national football team. The announcement comes after the dismissal of Japanese coach Masatada Ishii. Hudson, with previous experience as interim coach of the United States men’s national team in 2023, was already linked to the Football Association of Thailand since last year, serving as technical development director.

At this crucial moment, we need someone who thoroughly understands Thai football. Anthony Hudson has worked with the association at all levels and has extensive international experience.

The 44-year-old coach led New Zealand between 2014 and 2017. Subsequently, he was in charge of the Colorado Rapids of the MLS from the end of 2017 until May 2019. Hudson took over as interim coach of the United States after Gregg Berhalter’s contract ended in late 2022. During his tenure, the American team played five matches, with a record of two wins, one draw and two losses, before leaving the position in May 2023. Hudson’s first match in charge of Thailand will be a qualifier for the 2027 Asian Cup against Sri Lanka in November. Thailand currently occupies second place in Group D.
