Greyserman and Schauffele Lead the Baycurrent Classic in Japan

In a day marked by rain, Max Greyserman and Xander Schauffele tied at the top of the leaderboard after the third round of the Baycurrent Classic in Japan. Greyserman, seeking his first PGA Tour title, and Schauffele, with an impressive record that includes two major championships and an Olympic gold medal, finished the day with outstanding results. Greyserman completed the round with a pair of 71, while Schauffele delivered a card of 67 at the Yokohama Country Club. Both players are at 12 under par, with a total of 201.

It would be something special, obviously, my grandparents are here, my mother grew up here with her brother too. That’s a long way from now, but yes, thinking about the future, it would be an incredible feeling.

Schauffele, whose mother was born in Taiwan and grew up in Japan, expressed that winning in this tournament would be a dream come true. Greyserman, who has led or shared the lead since the first round, commented on the day’s challenges.

Obviously, I think Xander and I are tied, so I would have liked to extend my lead, play better today and all that, but you’re not going to play great for 72 holes in a row. The conditions were difficult and I didn’t adapt well to the elements, but tomorrow is a new day.

Five players were within three strokes of the lead heading into the final round: defending champion Nico Echavarria (69), Michael Thorbjornsen (66), Byeong Hun An (66), Garrick Higgo (68) and Si Woo Kim (69).

Under these conditions, I am very proud of the way I fought today to give myself a chance.

This tournament, the only one on the PGA Tour in Japan, moved this year to Yokohama after being held east of Tokyo. The event debuted in 2019 and was won by Tiger Woods.
