
World Cup hosts England will face Spain and France in warm-up matches in August before the start of the tournament, the Rugby Football Union (RFU) announced on Wednesday.
The Six Nations champions and two-time World Cup winners will host Spain in Leicester on August 2 and then travel to face France in Mont-de-Marsan a week later.
Spain will participate in its first World Cup since 2017 after winning the WXV 3 tournament last year, while France will seek to reach its first tournament final, having finished third on seven occasions.
England last won the World Cup in 2014 and has reached the final in every previous edition except one of the previous nine. The Red Roses start as clear favorites, having won all 25 matches since they lost the last final against New Zealand in 2022.
France tested England in the recent Six Nations, with England achieving the Grand Slam on the final day in an exciting 43-42 victory over the French at Twickenham to claim the championship victory for the seventh consecutive time.
The World Cup begins on August 22, with England playing against the United States in Sunderland. Samoa and Australia are with them in Group A.
