British & Irish Lions coach Andy Farrell has indicated that there are still “one or two” places available in his team, and that Owen Farrell could be considered for the tour of Australia.
On Thursday, Farrell announced a 38-player squad, highlighting the inclusion of Henry Pollock, a 20-year-old young player.
However, fly-half Owen Farrell, son of Andy, was not included in the list.
In November 2023, Owen Farrell announced his decision to retire from international rugby to “prioritize his well-being and that of his family.”

In the following January, he left the English club Saracens to join the French team Racing 92, which also meant that he was no longer eligible to play for England.
Although he hasn’t played international rugby since the 2023 World Cup, Andy Farrell mentioned that his son Owen, who can play at fly-half and centre, could still be considered for the tour.
“Owen was in the conversation, obviously, an experienced player like him, looking for his fourth tour and with his leadership qualities,” said Andy Farrell.

“But there came a point, as with some others, where he is still trying to regain his physical condition.”

“There are 38 selected, which leaves a couple of spots open for us later on, if and when needed. Owen and a few other players would be in that kind of group.”

Finn Russell, Marcus Smith, and Fin Smith have been selected by Farrell as fly-halves.
