Nominees for Sports Personality of the Year Award: Chloe Kelly, Hannah Hampton, and More
English women’s football stars, Chloe Kelly and Hannah Hampton, are competing for the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. The list of nominees also includes prominent figures in other sports.
Kelly and Hampton were key players in England’s dramatic victory over Spain in the final of the 2025 European Championship, where Kelly scored the decisive penalty and Hampton made two crucial saves.
For Kelly, this achievement came after a difficult personal period, but after leaving Manchester City to join Arsenal, she became a European champion and Champions League winner. For her part, Hampton, Chelsea goalkeeper, was awarded the Yashin Trophy as the best goalkeeper in the world at the Ballon d’Or awards.
Lando Norris, recently crowned Formula 1 world champion, also appears on the list after an exciting season in which he surpassed Max Verstappen and his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri.The young darts prodigy, Luke Littler, has also been nominated. At just 17 years old, he became the youngest world champion in darts history and achieved the PDC Triple Crown, solidifying his position as number one in the ranking.

Rory McIlroy, at 36 years old, has achieved two major victories in 2025. At the Masters, he won in a playoff against Justin Rose, becoming the sixth man to complete a Grand Slam of the four golf majors. Ellie Kildunne, for her part, scored five tries in England’s victory at the Women’s Rugby World Cup this summer. Despite missing the quarter-finals due to concussion, Kildunne scored two tries in the semi-final against France and another in the final against Canada, after having helped secure Six Nations glory.
The Sports Personality of the Year award will be presented at a ceremony in Salford on December 18, where viewers can vote live during the program.
