Walman Decides the Match with Goal in Extra Time

Defenseman Jake Walman, after recovering from an injury that kept him out of the first six games of the season, scored the decisive goal in overtime on Tuesday night, giving the Edmonton Oilers a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators.

Walman, an acquisition from last season that contributed to Edmonton reaching the Stanley Cup Final, suffered an injury in a preseason game on September 21. The 28-year-old player proved his worth on Tuesday, completing 25 shifts with 18:51 of ice time and recording four blocks.

The Oilers finished their five-game road trip and handed the Senators their second consecutive home loss.

The Senators managed to tie the game 2-2 in the third period with two goals in a span of 1:25. Ottawa got on the scoreboard after winning a puck battle near the boards. Drake Batherson assisted Dylan Cozens, who scored on the power play against Stuart Skinner, who made 19 saves. Just over a minute later, Thomas Chabot beat a Skinner with poor visibility to tie the game.

Edmonton opened the scoring at the end of the first period with a power play goal, when Ryan Nugent-Hopkins assisted Connor McDavid, who scored his first goal of the season from the top of the face-off circle.

Edmonton extended its lead to 2-0 at 49 seconds of the second period after a turnover by the Senators. Leon Draisaitl advanced and passed the puck to rookie Isaac Howard, who beat Linus Ullmark, who finished with 22 saves, scoring his first NHL goal.
