Colorado Avalanche Extends Winning Streak with Victory Over Blackhawks

In an exciting NHL game, the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Chicago Blackhawks with a score of 1-0, thanks to an outstanding performance by Scott Wedgewood and Cale Makar.

Wedgewood shone in goal, earning his first shutout of the season with 22 saves. This victory extends the Avalanche’s winning streak to nine consecutive games, the team’s longest streak since March 2024.

Cale Makar scored the only goal of the game in the second period, securing the victory for the NHL leaders. Makar’s performance continues to impress, solidifying him as one of the most outstanding defensemen in the league.

The Blackhawks, despite Spencer Knight’s 25 saves, suffered their third consecutive loss after a six-game winning streak.

Wedgewood’s shutout was the second in two nights for the Avalanche, who were coming off a 3-0 win over Nashville on Saturday.

Wedgewood, who has been a backup goalie for most of his career, leads the NHL with 13 wins and a goals-against average of 2.23.

Makar leads NHL defensemen with nine goals and 29 points. Tristen Nielsen, in his fourth NHL game, assisted on Makar’s goal, earning his first point.

In the first period, the Blackhawks dominated, outshooting Colorado 11-2, but Wedgewood stood firm in goal. In the second period, the Avalanche responded, outshooting Chicago 19-1.

Makar scored with 1:39 remaining in the second period, following a rebound. The goal was possible thanks to an interception by Nielsen.

Chicago pressed in the third period, but Wedgewood made several crucial saves, including a stop on Frank Nazar with 43 seconds remaining, while Knight was pulled for an extra attacker.
