United States Advances to Semifinals of the Ice Hockey World Championship

STOCKHOLM – Conor Garland shined with two power-play goals, leading the United States to a decisive victory over Finland with a score of 5-2, securing their spot in the semifinals of the ice hockey world championship this Thursday.

After being down 2-1 in the middle period, the American team showed its ability to react in just 71 seconds. Zeev Buium, with a rebound, tied the game, and Garland, with his second goal, gave the lead back to the United States.

Garland had opened the scoring for the United States in the first period, taking advantage of a cross-ice pass from Logan Cooley. Finland, for its part, had managed to tie the game with a power-play goal by Eeli Tolvanen, and subsequently, Patrik Puistola put Finland ahead.

In the third period, the United States consolidated its victory with goals from Shane Pinto and Clayton Keller, who sealed the victory with an empty-net goal.

The American team is looking to break the medal drought, as they haven’t achieved one since the bronze obtained in 2021.

Finland, for its part, is looking for a medal since its gold in 2022.

In Herning, Denmark, Switzerland, last year’s runner-up, secured their place in the semi-finals by defeating Austria 6-0.

Later, Canada will face Denmark in Herning, while Sweden will take on the Czech Republic, the current champion, in Stockholm.
