Mark Stone, Golden Knights captain, out with injury

Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone will be out on a week-to-week basis due to a wrist injury, according to coach Bruce Cassidy. Stone, who plays as a right winger, suffered the injury in the third period of the Golden Knights’ 6-1 victory over Calgary on Saturday. So far, he has 13 points this season, with two goals and 11 assists.

I feel so sorry for him. He has always known how to recover, that’s the good news. When we get him back, whether in the short, medium or long term, we still don’t know.

Brandon Saad will take Stone’s place on the top line, joining Jack Eichel and Ivan Barbashev, who will move to the right wing. Eight of Stone’s points have been in Vegas’s power play, which ranks second in the league. Mitch Marner will replace Stone on the goal line during the power play, while defenseman Shea Theodore will move to the first unit. The Knights (4-0-2) face their toughest test of the season, at home against the undefeated Carolina Hurricanes (5-0-0), with absences in their forward lines and in defense. Stone joins Brett Howden and Noah Hanifin, who are also out of the game. Howden, who is out with a lower-body injury, has already started skating, but will not be available for the game against the Hurricanes. Hanifin has not skated since Vegas’ 6-5 shootout loss to Los Angeles in the season opener due to an undisclosed injury.
