NHL Movement: Dallas Stars Trade Matt Dumba to the Penguins

In a move that shakes up the league, the Dallas Stars have finalized a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The deal involves defenseman Matt Dumba, who joins the Penguins, while the Stars receive Vladislav Kolyachonok and a second-round pick in the 2028 draft. Dumba, who signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract, failed to have the expected impact in Dallas. His presence on the team did not translate into outstanding performance, and he was left out of the 18 playoff games, where the Stars fell in the Western Conference final for the third consecutive year. During the regular season, the 30-year-old player recorded one goal and nine assists in 63 games. This figure represents his lowest number of goals since his rookie season with Minnesota in 2013-14, where he scored one goal in 13 games. Throughout his career, Dumba has accumulated 258 points (84 goals and 174 assists) in 737 games, over 12 seasons. The Penguins will be his fourth team in three seasons, after spending the first 10 years of his career with the Wild.

For his part, Kolyachonok, who played for the Penguins and Utah last season, added seven points (two goals) in 35 games. The 24-year-old player began his career in 2021-22 when the Utah franchise was in Arizona. In his career, he has achieved 14 points (four goals) in 74 games.
