Sharks Apologize for Controversial On-Screen Message
SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Sharks issued an apology following the display of a message on their scoreboard that generated controversy during the team’s Hispanic Heritage celebration. The message, displayed during the intermission of Saturday’s game against Pittsburgh, said “SJ SHARKS FANS/LOVE ICE !!/GET ‘EM BOYZ !”. The Sharks organization deeply regretted the situation, acknowledging that the message did not reflect the institution’s values. In addition, they indicated that they are investigating the origin of the message.The controversy occurred at the Sharks’ ninth annual Hispanic Heritage celebration, an event known as “Los Tiburones Night”.Sharks Sports & Entertainment deeply regrets that this message, which does not comply with the values of our organization, was not detected during our standard review process.
