Sharks Apologize for On-Screen Message During Hispanic Heritage Celebration

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Sharks issued an apology after displaying a message on their video screen that generated controversy during the celebration of Hispanic heritage at a game. The message, which seemed to praise the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office, appeared during halftime of Saturday night’s game against Pittsburgh. The message, from a fan, said: “SHARKS FANS/WE LOVE ICE!!/¡GO, GUYS!”

The Sharks deeply regret that this message, which does not align with the values of our organization, was not detected during our standard review process.

San Jose Sharks Statement
The Sharks organization publicly apologized, explaining that the offensive message was sent externally and inadvertently displayed on the stadium screen. The statement also indicated that the origin of the message is being investigated. The game coincided with the Sharks’ ninth annual Hispanic Heritage celebration, known as “Noche de Los Tiburones”.
