The Buffalo Sabres Get Their First Win of the Season

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo Sabres took their first lead of the season on Wednesday, in an unusual way. During a power play in the first period, Jack Quinn fired a shot from the area that went over the net, bouncing off the glass and going into the goal after hitting the back of goalie Leevi Merilainen. Although Tim Stutzle tied for Ottawa in the same period, the Sabres defeated the Senators with a score of 8-4, thus securing their first victory of the season. Quinn scored his second goal in the third period.

Before this triumph, the Sabres had been outscored 10-2, losing their first three games of the season. They fell 4-0 at home to the New York Rangers and 3-1 both in Boston and at home against Colorado. They had never started a season with an 0-4 record, although they did have complicated starts in 2017 (0-4-1) and 2013 (0-6-1).
