NEW YORK – Vegas Golden Knights forward Nicolas Roy was fined but not suspended on Friday for elbowing Edmonton Oilers’ Trent Frederic in the face during overtime of Game 2 of the second-round playoff series between the two teams.
The NHL’s Player Safety Department announced a fine of $7,813, the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement, following a disciplinary hearing with Roy.
Roy attempted to play the puck while it was in the air, but instead made contact with Frederic’s head, which caused a laceration to the Oilers’ forward.
Frederic briefly left the game before quickly returning to the ice. However, Edmonton failed to capitalize on the subsequent five-minute advantage, but scored shortly after with a goal by Leon Draisaitl assisted by Connor McDavid.
Vegas is losing the best-of-seven series 2-0, with Game 3 on Saturday night in Edmonton.
