In addition, he added an assist, which allowed him to move up to tenth place on the total points list, surpassing Joe Sakic. The 38-year-old Russian forward extended his NHL goal record to 907, with 10 goals in 21 games this season. His total points tally rises to 1,643, surpassing Sakic by two.
Ovechkin opened the scoring in the first period with a power play goal, followed by an assist in the second period that gave the Capitals the definitive advantage. In the third period, he scored two more goals, demonstrating his ability to score in crucial moments. The player has scored in four consecutive games and has seven goals in his last six matches.
