Oilers’ Jake Walman Fined for Game 3 Incidents
Edmonton Oilers defenseman Jake Walman has been fined $10,000 by the NHL following two incidents during his team’s Game 3 loss in the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers. Walman received a $5,000 fine for an incident involving the Panthers’ bench in the second period of Monday night’s game. Panthers player A.J. Greer stole Walman’s glove and placed it on the bench. Walman’s response was to spray water at the Florida players with his bottle, from his own bench, on at least four occasions. The second $5,000 fine was for hitting the Panthers’ Matthew Tkachuk in the third period. Walman threw several punches to Tkachuk’s head while Edmonton defenseman John Klingberg held the Panthers player’s arms. Walman was penalized with two minor penalties for roughing and a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. These fines represent the maximum amount allowed under the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement. The money raised will go to the Emergency Assistance Fund for Players. The Game 3 totaled 140 penalty minutes between the Oilers and the Panthers, being the fourth highest figure in a Stanley Cup Final game. Leon Draisaitl, Oilers center, described the third period, which included 122 combined penalty minutes, as “a UFC fight” between both teams.“Obviously, I did that for a reason. I won’t go into details. I guess it’s part of the game,” Walman stated after the 6-1 defeat against Florida, which gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead in the series. “I have to realize that there are cameras everywhere and they see those things.”

Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final is scheduled for Thursday night in Sunrise.“It was a penalty-filled mess tonight,” said Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner. “I’m not really sure what to think. I think you can see there’s a lot of emotion involved in this. We’re trying to win the Cup. They’re trying to win the Cup. So there’s a fight.”
