Forward Kaapo Kakko has secured his future with the Seattle Kraken by signing a three-year contract, with an average annual value of $4.525 million. The agreement was announced on Tuesday, marking a significant step for the team. Kakko, 24, arrived at the Kraken on December 18th after a trade with the New York Rangers, where Seattle gave up defenseman Will Borgen, a third-round pick in 2025, and a sixth-round pick in 2025. The Finnish player was the second overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. During the past season, Kakko achieved his personal best with 44 points, including 14 goals and 30 assists in 79 games played between the Rangers and the Kraken. His 30 assists also represented a personal record.

Getting a contract with Kaapo was a priority this summer. We quickly learned that he would be an important part of our team in the future. He has size, skill, and a tremendous playmaking ability, and he’s not afraid to go to the net. He fit in immediately with our group, and we are delighted to have him under contract.
