Jaromir Jagr, at 53 years old, begins his 38th season

The legendary ice hockey player, Jaromir Jagr, 53 years old, has begun his 38th professional season. He did so by playing on the fourth line for his hometown team, the Kladno Knights, in the Czech league. In Friday’s game against Vitkovice, which Kladno won 3-1, Jagr recorded 10:08 minutes of ice time and participated in the power play. His season debut was delayed due to a muscle problem. This was the fifteenth game of the season for Kladno. Jagr, at that time, was 53 years and 244 days old. Jagr debuted with Kladno at age 16 and returned to the club in 2018, after being released by the Calgary Flames. Currently, Jagr is second on the NHL’s all-time points list, surpassed only by Wayne Gretzky. With 766 goals in the NHL, placing him in fourth place historically, Jagr played 11 seasons in Pittsburgh, winning the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 1991 and 1992.

“He makes his presence felt in the locker room. We have a lot of fun with him”.

Until the beginning of this year, Jagr played a dual role as a player and owner of Kladno, dividing his time between seeking sponsors and administrative tasks, in addition to time on the ice. Jagr acquired full ownership in 2017 and sold a majority stake in Kladno last January to financially boost the team. So, Jagr expressed his desire to complete the season by trying to take Kladno to the playoffs for the first time. They failed to reach the playoffs, so they have another chance this season.
