RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes are preparing for a long road trip, as concerns surround the physical condition of defenseman Jaccob Slavin.

Slavin was absent for much of the third period and all of overtime in Saturday night’s 4-3 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers.

“They’re evaluating him,” coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “We’ll know more about his status on Monday. He came off a little hobbled.”

Carolina will begin a six-game road trip on Tuesday night in San Jose. The Hurricanes will be more than two weeks without playing at home.

Slavin, 31, played less than 4 and a half minutes after the second period on Saturday night. He was on the ice for more than 20 minutes in Carolina’s 6-3 victory over New Jersey on Thursday night, at the start of the season.

Slavin, who didn’t play in the preseason, has participated in more than 75 regular season games in each of the last four seasons. Earlier in his career, he had three consecutive seasons in which he played all 82 regular season games.

He is a two-time winner of the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s most gentlemanly player. He signed an eight-year contract in the summer of 2024.

The Hurricanes defeated Philadelphia with a goal by Seth Jarvis with 16.7 seconds remaining in overtime.
