Rangers Shake Up Their Roster: Miller to Carolina

The New York Rangers continue to reshape their roster, finalizing a significant trade on Tuesday night. Veteran defenseman K’Andre Miller was sent to the Carolina Hurricanes. In return, the Hurricanes, rivals in the Metropolitan Division, obtained first and second-round picks in 2026. The first-round pick is protected for the top ten positions and will be the best between Carolina’s or the Dallas Stars’. As part of the agreement, Carolina negotiated and secured an eight-year, $60 million extension with Miller, who averaged 21:56 minutes on the ice last season. Miller, 25, who played at the University of Wisconsin in the Big 10 Conference, was a restricted free agent eligible to receive offers from other teams in exchange for compensation. The move to Carolina ends that speculation and continues the Rangers’ defensive overhaul, especially after they signed veteran Vladislav Gavrikov to a seven-year, $49 million contract that same day. Miller has accumulated 36 goals and 132 points in his NHL career, all with New York.
