Jack Hughes Leads Devils to Victory Over Maple Leafs

In an action-packed night in Toronto, the New Jersey Devils defeated the Maple Leafs with a score of 5-2, thanks to a standout performance by Jack Hughes. Hughes, with his third hat trick in his NHL career, was the key figure in the match. Cody Glass and Brenden Dillon also contributed goals for the Devils, while Jake Allen defended the goal with 23 saves. Jesper Bratt had three assists for the Devils, who have achieved five consecutive victories after starting the season with a defeat. From the Maple Leafs, John Tavares and Matias Maccelli scored, and Anthony Stolarz made 30 saves. William Nylander recorded two assists. The game took an unexpected turn when Toronto, leading 1-0 after the first period, conceded three goals in the first five minutes of the second, to the disappointment of the fans at Scotiabank Arena. Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev suffered an upper-body injury during a penalty situation in the second period, following a collision with Devils center Dawson Mercer. Toronto challenged New Jersey’s first goal for goaltender interference, but the initial decision stood. The Devils took advantage of the situation and, with a delay of game penalty, Glass scored the second goal, right after Tanev left the ice.
