Blackhawks Captain Nick Foligno Out With Injury

Chicago Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno will be out for four weeks due to a hand injury sustained on Saturday during his team’s 3-2 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs, according to coach Jeff Blashill. Foligno, 38, was injured with 90 seconds left in the second period. The incident occurred while he was skating near the Blackhawks’ defensive zone, and a shot by Jake McCabe deflected off his hand. Immediately, Foligno hunched over and grabbed his hand as he returned to the Blackhawks’ bench. He did not return for the third period, but finished the game with three shots on goal and a time on ice of 10:41. The absence of Foligno, who has accumulated six points in 15 games, represents a significant loss for the Blackhawks. The player served as the fourth-line center, teaming up with Sam Lafferty and Landon Slaggert. This injury adds to that of Jason Dickinson, who is already on the injured list.

After a previous season in which they finished with few points in the NHL, the Blackhawks (9-5-4) have become one of the biggest surprises in the first quarter of the regular season. With the victory against the Maple Leafs, the team is positioned third in the Central Division, and one point ahead of the Vegas Golden Knights and the Seattle Kraken in the race for the wild card of the Western Conference.
