The Buffalo Sabres Get Their First Win of the Season

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo Sabres took their first lead of the season on Wednesday, in an unusual way. During a power play in the first period, Jack Quinn shot from the area that went wide, bouncing off the glass and going into the goal after hitting the back of the goalie Leevi Merilainen. Tim Stutzle tied for Ottawa in the same period, but the Sabres ultimately defeated the Senators with a score of 8-4, thus securing their first win of the season. Quinn added a second goal in the third period.

Before this triumph, the Sabres had been outscored by a score of 10-2, losing their first three games of the season. They fell 4-0 at home against the New York Rangers and 3-1 both in Boston and at home against Colorado.

The team had never started a season with an 0-4 record, although they did have an 0-4-1 start in 2017 and 0-6-1 in 2013.
