David Pastrnak will miss the start of Bruins training camp due to tendinitis
Boston Bruins’ top scorer David Pastrnak will miss the first practices of training camp due to tendinitis, general manager Don Sweeney announced on Wednesday. Sweeney clarified that the four-time All-Star will be on the ice, but will not practice with the team during the first few days. He did not specify the location of the tendinitis, but mentioned that it arose during his last training period.“He’s still on the ice, but he’ll be in full practice next week,” Sweeney said. “So that’s the only surprise we have. Everyone else is fully up and running.”
Don Sweeney, Bruins General ManagerLast season, Pastrnak led the Bruins with 43 goals and 63 assists, totaling 106 points, almost double that of his most productive teammate. In addition, he played in all 82 games for the third consecutive season. Coach Marco Sturm commented that Pastrnak’s absence will provide opportunities for other players.Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy were the alternates last season under captain Brad Marchand, who was traded to the Florida Panthers at the trade deadline. The two returning alternates led the “captain practices” of the offseason, but Sweeney indicated that the Bruins have decided not to name anyone as captain immediately.“There’s usually always a surprise in training camp. And I hope we have at least one or two. There will be opportunities, and that’s what excites me. I worked with all the young players the last three years, so I want them to succeed. And I will do everything I can to put them in a good position.”
Marco Sturm, Coach“Everything is on the table at this point,” Sweeney said at the Bruins Foundation golf event. “We have a leadership group that has been meeting among themselves, and I think eventually someone will emerge as the one who should be the next captain.”
