Blues’ Jimmy Snuggerud to miss time with injury
St. Louis Blues rookie forward Jimmy Snuggerud will be out of action for up to six weeks due to surgery on his left wrist, the team announced Monday morning.
Snuggerud, 21, selected in the first round by the Blues in 2022, established himself as a top-nine forward during the first quarter of the season. His five goals were two shy of tying for the team lead, while his 11 points place him in sixth place.
In addition, he averages 15:26 minutes of ice time per game, ranking seventh among the Blues’ forwards.
His performances allowed him to stay relevant in a rookie class that has seen several players stand out. Snuggerud was tied for eighth in goals among first-year players.
If the six-week timeframe is met, Snuggerud’s earliest return to the lineup would be in mid-January. This would allow him to play about 10 games before the NHL Olympic break, whose last game before the break is February 4th.
The Blues also reported that forward Alexey Toropchenko will be out of action due to leg burns suffered in a domestic accident. His recovery is expected to take several weeks.
Toropchenko has scored a goal and two points, averaging 11:29 minutes of ice time in 17 games this season.
These absences add to the challenges the Blues have faced, who, after qualifying for the playoffs last season, have had a complicated start in the first quarter of this season.
St. Louis (9-10-7) was on Monday in a group of five teams that were two points behind the Chicago Blackhawks for the last wild card spot in the Western Conference.
