Kyrou Decides in Shootout, Blues Halt Lightning Streak
ST. LOUIS – Jordan Kyrou scored the only goal in the shootout, leading the St. Louis Blues to defeat Tampa Bay 3-2 this Friday night, ending the Lightning’s 11-game winning streak, tying a franchise record.
Kyrou’s backhand shot beat Andrei Vasilevskiy.
Nikita Kucherov of Tampa Bay had the opportunity to extend the shootout, but was stopped by Joel Hofer, who made 34 saves in regulation and overtime, adding three more in the tiebreaker.
This was the Blues’ first win in overtime or penalty shootout this season, after an 0-8 start.
The Blues took a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period with goals separated by 30 seconds.
Jake Neighbors scored the first with 2:57 left in the period, and Nick Bjugstad added another when he was alone in the area with 2:27 left.
Tampa Bay tied the game with two power-play goals separated by 62 seconds in the second period.
Kucherov scored at 9:59 when the Lightning had a two-man advantage. He then assisted on Oliver Bjorkstrand’s goal 1:02 later. Darren Raddysh assisted on both goals.
Vasilevskiy made 19 saves.
Tampa Bay was looking for its 12th straight win, a team record. The Lightning hadn’t lost since December 18, when they fell 2-1 to the Los Angeles Kings. The last time they won 11 in a row was from January 29 to February 17, 2020. They won the Stanley Cup that season.
