FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – Garrett Wilson and Aaron Rodgers, who were teammates on the New York Jets for two seasons and connected for 98 receptions in 2024, appear to have ended their relationship following the quarterback’s departure. On Thursday, Wilson revealed that he has not kept in touch with the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, who was released by the Jets in February.

I haven’t spoken to Aaron since he left, so I wish him the best this season. Yes, but we haven’t spoken since he left.

Both players will meet on the field on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, where the Jets and Steelers will face off in the season opener. Despite an impressive performance, Wilson and Rodgers had some disagreements last season, according to multiple sources. The mid-season trade of Davante Adams, a close friend of Rodgers, altered the dynamics of the aerial game. Adams received 25 more passes than Wilson in the 11 games they played together. The Jets finished the season with a 5-12 record, marked by dysfunction.

It started to change, especially when Davante arrived. It really changed, but it was already changing before that, Rodgers and Garrett weren’t on the same page and Aaron got frustrated, then Garrett got frustrated.

Things have gone well for Wilson, who signed a four-year, $130 million extension before training camp. In addition, he is reunited with his college quarterback, Justin Fields, who shined at Ohio State in 2019 and 2020. Although they are not friends by text message, Wilson did have positive words for Rodgers.

I had the opportunity to play with a living legend in this sport. Every day I was able to learn something. I tried to do it the right way and always make sure to be a sponge. I can’t even… it’s hard to put into words exactly what I took away from those experiences.

In Pittsburgh, Rodgers was unusually reserved on Wednesday, refusing to say whether he keeps in touch with his former teammates and how he feels about facing the Jets.
