Von Miller Joins the Commanders

Outside linebacker, eight-time Pro Bowl selection, Von Miller, has signed with the Washington Commanders. The news was announced by the player himself through his social media.

Miller will sign a one-year contract, although the terms are still being finalized.

The Buffalo Bills released Miller on March 9, which allowed them to save $8.4 million in salary cap space. Miller was scheduled to occupy the second-largest space on the team’s salary cap.

Miller’s stint with the Bills was full of ups and downs. The pass rusher signed a six-year, $120 million contract in the 2022 offseason. After a good start, which included eight sacks in 11 games, he suffered a serious injury to his right ACL on November 24, 2022. Miller stated during the 2024 training camp that he “probably shouldn’t have played” in 2023 due to the injury. He finished the 2023 season playing in 12 games and recording zero sacks and three tackles.

Miller, 36, was subsequently suspended for four games (Weeks 5-8) for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, stemming from accusations of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend in the Dallas suburbs during the Bills’ bye week in 2023. He turned himself in to the police and was released on bail shortly thereafter. The case was later closed and no charges were ever filed. The NFL conducted a separate investigation.

The two-time Super Bowl champion had a solid season in 2024 as part of the team’s defensive line rotation, recording six sacks in the regular season. Miller did not play more than 21 snaps in any of the Bills’ three playoff games, including 16 in the AFC Championship against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Selected at the number 2 spot by the Broncos in 2011, Miller was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and recorded 110 sacks in 10 seasons with Denver.

With eight Pro Bowl selections and three times on the first-team All-Pro, he has accumulated 129.5 sacks in 14 seasons in the NFL. He won Super Bowls with the Broncos (2015) and in his only season with the Los Angeles Rams (2021) and added nine combined sacks during those two postseasons.

Miller ranks 16th all-time with his 129.5 sacks, the most since he entered the league.
