MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa called his appointment to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition “an honor” this Wednesday, although he’s still figuring out exactly what it entails. President Donald Trump established the council on July 31, with the aim of “prioritizing and expanding the participation of children in youth sports and active play”, “promoting the physical, mental, and civic benefits of daily movement, exercise, and good nutrition”, and “engaging all sectors, public and private, civilian and military, in creating a national culture of strength, vitality, and excellence”, as he wrote in an executive order.

Tua Tagovailoa discutió su nombramiento en el Consejo Presidencial sobre Deportes, así como la pronunciación del apellido por parte del presidente Trump durante el anuncio.
When speaking for the first time since Trump’s announcement, Tagovailoa celebrated the appointment.

I think it’s great, it’s an honor. I don’t know much about it, but it’s an honor.

According to Trump’s executive order, the council will advise him on a series of issues related to improving the health and general physical condition of Americans, both at the youth and adult levels. Trump appointed Tagovailoa to the council along with San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Trump also named Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley as a council member, but Barkley clarified that he declined the invitation. During the press conference in which he announced the council, Trump mispronounced Tagovailoa’s last name before calling him “a great guy” and asking him to stay healthy. The Dolphins’ quarterback laughed at the incorrect pronunciation when asked about it on Wednesday.

I don’t think it was the worst, I heard some worse ones in Alabama. It is what it is, I don’t take it to heart.

Tua Tagovailoa
Tagovailoa said he didn’t know why he was appointed to the council when asked how it came about.
