Steelers Bolster Defense with Jabrill Peppers
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense adds Jabrill Peppers, a former first-round pick, according to sources confirmed to Alofoke Deportes.
Peppers, chosen at number 25 in the 2017 draft, arrives after spending the last three seasons in New England, where he was surprisingly released last month.
In 2024, Peppers participated in only six games, after being placed on the commissioner’s exemption list while facing charges of assault and assault with injury. He was subsequently found not guilty in a jury trial in January.
During the 2024 season, Peppers was also affected by foot and hamstring injuries, but still managed an interception, two passes defended, a forced fumble, and two tackles for loss. Throughout his eight-year career, which includes three seasons with the Giants, Peppers has recorded seven interceptions, six forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries, and 511 tackles. In New England, where he played 26 games, he initially signed a two-year contract as a free agent, but then extended his contract for three years and $24 million before a change in the coaching staff this offseason.
The safety position for the Steelers suffered a setback in the season opener victory against the New York Jets, when DeShon Elliott left the field with a knee injury in the first half and was subsequently ruled out.
In his incorporation into the Steelers, Peppers will face his former team in Week 3, when the Steelers travel to New England.
