Stafford Ready for Season Start with the Rams
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who missed time due to a back injury, is expected to start the season against the Houston Texans, according to head coach Sean McVay. Stafford was absent from training camp for almost a month due to a back injury, but has fully participated in practice since his return on August 18. McVay reported on Monday that Stafford will participate in the full week of practice leading up to the Week 1 game against the Texans. McVay also announced that left tackle Alaric Jackson, who is dealing with blood clots in his lower leg, participated in Monday’s practice. McVay indicated that, although the blood clots “will always be something to manage”, the plan is for Jackson to play against Houston.Jackson participated in individual drills and walkthroughs during training camp, but had not participated in team drills. Jackson faced a similar situation in 2022, when he missed the final nine games of the season due to blood clots. Stafford, 37, is preparing for his 17th season in the NFL. Last month, the quarterback avoided giving details about his back injury, but mentioned that it was “something that appeared gradually” while training during the offseason.I think we’ll be at our best with him on the field.

Stafford begins the 2025 season just 191 yards away from reaching 60,000 career passing yards, on the verge of joining an elite group of nine quarterbacks in NFL history who have achieved that mark.Backs are sometimes interesting things. It’s not simple to determine what’s what and how you’ll feel, so I really appreciate our team, our head coach, and everyone for taking a daily approach with me, doing everything they can to help me.
