Matthew Stafford Ready for Season Start with the Rams

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is slated to start the season opener against the Houston Texans, according to coach Sean McVay. Stafford, who missed several practices due to a back injury, has fully participated in practices since his return on August 18. McVay confirmed that Stafford will be present at practice throughout the week leading up to the Week 1 game. The coach also reported on the situation of left tackle Alaric Jackson, who is dealing with blood clots in his lower leg. Despite this condition, McVay indicated that Jackson will play against Houston, although the clots will “always require management”.

I think we’ll be at our best with him on the field.

Jackson, although he participated in individual exercises and jogging during training camp, had not participated in team exercises. This situation is similar to the one he experienced in 2022, when he missed the last nine games of the season due to blood clots. Stafford, at 37 years old, is preparing for his 17th season in the NFL. Recently, the quarterback did not want to go into details about his back injury, but mentioned that it arose during the offseason training.

Backs are sometimes interesting things. It’s not so simple to know what’s what and how you’re going to feel, so I really appreciate our team and our head coach and everyone for taking a daily approach with me, doing everything they can to help me.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Stafford is only 191 yards away from reaching 60,000 career passing yards, which would place him in a select group of nine quarterbacks in NFL history who have achieved this milestone.
