Abraham Lucas Secures His Future with the Seahawks with a Million-Dollar Extension

The Seattle Seahawks and right tackle Abraham Lucas have agreed to a three-year, $46 million contract extension, according to sources close to the team.

This renovation represents a significant bet on the health of Lucas’s operated knee and a strategic reinvestment in the team’s offensive line.

Lucas, 26 years old, showed a dominant performance in his rookie season in 2022, after being selected by the Seahawks in the third round of the draft. However, knee injuries limited him to only 13 games in the last two seasons, requiring surgery in January 2024, a process that he himself described as “long and painful” to return to the field.

A clear sign of his recovery is that Lucas didn’t miss a single training session at the training camp or in the spring practices open to the media.

Lucas becomes the second offensive lineman drafted by the Seahawks since the arrival of general manager John Schneider in 2010 to receive a contract extension (Justin Britt in 2017 is the other). With an annual average of $15.33 million, Lucas will rank 13th among NFL right tackles.

Lucas was part of a 2022 Seahawks draft class that produced starters with each of their first six selections. These players are now eligible for extensions, and Schneider recently hinted that one could be in the works.

The Seahawks held conversations with another member of that class, safety Coby Bryant, but were unable to reach an agreement.
