Julian Blackmon, Saints Safety, Could Miss Entire Season with Injury

New Orleans Saints safety Julian Blackmon could be out for the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury, according to coach Kellen Moore on Monday. Moore stated that Blackmon’s injury “will be long-lasting, potentially for the entire season”. Blackmon, who signed with the Saints during training camp after Tyrann Mathieu’s retirement, participated in every play in the team’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Moore explained that the problem wasn’t detected until a few hours later, when Blackmon got home.

That’s what adrenaline does to you. Sometimes those things happen to these guys. There’s a lot of energy and play and you make big plays and everyone is sore after a football game… Sometimes it takes a little while to realize what’s pain and what’s an injury, and unfortunately that’s how it was for Julian.

With Blackmon’s absence, the Saints will have to turn to Jordan Howden, who was inactive on Sunday due to an oblique injury, or rookie Jonas Sanker. Moore added that it’s a “shame for him, because he has done an incredible job coming here and put himself in an incredible position to have a great season and also played very well on Sunday”.
