Ravens Release C.J. Gardner-Johnson
The Baltimore Ravens have decided to release safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, just a week after adding him to their practice squad. According to Kevin Conner, Gardner-Johnson’s agent, the decision between the Ravens and the player was “mutual and amicable”. Gardner-Johnson joined the Ravens’ practice squad on October 7. However, that same day, the Ravens acquired safety Alohi Gilman via a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers. In Sunday’s loss against the Los Angeles Rams, the Ravens started Gilman, who made seven tackles, and did not elevate Gardner-Johnson from the practice squad.This is the second time this season that Gardner-Johnson has been released. The Houston Texans let him go at the end of last month after only three games. Gardner-Johnson, 27, has 18 interceptions and 51 passes defended in his seven NFL seasons. Last season, with the Philadelphia Eagles, he achieved six interceptions. The Ravens (1-5) are in last place in the league in points allowed per game (32.3) entering their bye week.After the Ravens traded for a safety, we were looking for a clearer path to play.
