Christian Watson Secures His Future with the Packers: $13.25 Million Contract Extension

Green Bay Packers receiver Christian Watson has secured his future with the team with a one-year contract extension for $13.25 million. The news was confirmed by his agent, Adisa Bakari. Watson, 26, was selected in the second round of the 2022 draft. This extension prevents the player from becoming a free agent next season. The receiver suffered a right knee injury in the last regular season game of last year against the Chicago Bears. He is currently on the physically unable to perform list, which means he will miss at least the first four games of this season. Coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst have praised Watson’s recovery during the preseason.

“When you see him running… you want to throw him out there, right?”, Gutekunst commented in the middle of training camp last month. “But there’s a timeline with these ACL injuries, and he’s certainly ahead of the curve. There’s no doubt about it, but at the same time he has a long career ahead of him, so we want to make sure we take the right steps and don’t skip any steps along the way.”

Watson, who has dealt with several injuries during his NFL career, has participated in 38 games in three seasons, accumulating 98 receptions for 1,653 yards and 14 touchdowns. His average of 16.9 yards per reception ranks him third in the league among all players with at least 75 receptions since the start of the 2022 season.
