Josh Metellus Reports to Vikings Training Camp
EAGAN, Minn. – Minnesota Vikings safety Josh Metellus has decided he won’t miss any part of the summer training camp, he stated on Wednesday. Metellus, a key piece in the team’s defense for the last two seasons, chose not to extend his spring “hold-in” to the start of summer training. Despite not having an agreement on the contract extension he has been seeking, Metellus actively participated in the Vikings’ first training camp practice on Wednesday.Metellus signed a three-year contract extension in 2023, which will be void after this season. In the spring, he was absent from the 7-on-7 drills, which were the most intense periods of the Vikings’ practice plan. His approach left open the possibility that he could continue to reduce his participation until the parties reached an agreement on a new contract or a salary increase for 2025, but he said that, in his opinion, it is too close to the start of the season to do so. “I did the work, man. In the last two years, I played more than 2,000 plays and that’s all I have. People can say what they want, for and against, about the type of player I am, but at the end of the day, the tape has no sound,” concluded Metellus. The dialogue has gone well, so I’m not too worried about what’s happening. I’m just doing my part, being here for the team, trying to be a leader, a captain, and I can’t do that from the sidelines.
