Lions Lose Ennis Rakestraw to Injury

The Detroit Lions have placed second-year cornerback Ennis Rakestraw on the season-ending injured reserve list. Rakestraw underwent successful shoulder surgery, which will keep him out for the rest of the year. He left Sunday’s practice early to be evaluated for the shoulder injury, which turned out to be serious.

“Yes, you feel for the kid, you hate it. It’s not his fault, it’s one of those tough moments,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said on Monday. “All you can do is try to make it better, rehab it, come back stronger and move forward. That’s all you can do.”

Rakestraw was poised to take on a more significant role next season after being limited to eight games as a rookie due to a hamstring injury. The Lions selected Rakestraw with the No. 61 overall pick of the second round in 2024. Recognizing that it has been a difficult two years, Rakestraw posted on social media that “will be back soon”.
